Two 300-level students from the University of Ibadan (UI), Debbie Paul and Adekunle Akorede, have emerged winners in the French Embassy’s “Get Creative with Plastic” Challenge, held under the Plastic Free Campus Awareness Initiative. The university was one of 10 Nigerian institutions selected for the program, funded by the French Embassy Fund (FEF).
Debbie Paul, from the Department of Environmental Health Science, won in the music category, while Adekunle Akorede, from the Department of Physiology, won in the writing category.
According to a statement by the university’s Director of Public Communication, Mrs. Joke Akinpelu, UI recorded the highest level of student engagement with over 300 participants and 100 creative submissions, making it the only university to produce two winners.
The initiative was spearheaded by UI Vice Chancellor Prof. Kayode Adebowale and coordinated through the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Strategic Partnerships, Prof. Oluyemisi Bamgbose, SAN, with Prof. Aina Adeogun of Zoology serving as the campus focal person.
