Sokoto State Commissioner Condemns Harmful Traditional Metal Poisoning Treatments
The Sokoto State Commissioner of Health, Faruk Wurno, has expressed concern over the use of harmful traditional practices by local barbers in treating metal poisoning. Wurno condemned the practice of making incisions on patients’ stomachs as a form of treatment and called for its immediate cessation.
During the presentation of government-supplied drugs for metal poisoning treatment at General Hospital Tureta, Wurno urged individuals showing symptoms to seek medical care rather than relying on unsafe traditional methods. He assured that the government would distribute essential drugs to all general hospitals handling metal poisoning cases.
The Executive Director of the State Hospital Services Management Board, Bello Attahiru, representing the commissioner, reiterated the government’s commitment to improving patient care and eliminating harmful practices.
Receiving the medical supplies, the Chairman of Tureta Local Government Council, Aliyu Tureta, expressed gratitude and promised proper utilization of the drugs.
