Police Nab Two Suspects for Streetlight Cable Vandalism in Lagos
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspects for allegedly vandalising streetlight cables along the Ijegun-Jakande Road.
The suspects, identified as Jemilu Abdullahi and Samsondeen Isiaku, were caught in the act by patrol officers from the Isheri Oshun Division on Tuesday, May 6.
Confirming the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, the state police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said an investigation has commenced and the suspects will be charged to court soon.
“The suspects were arrested while vandalising streetlight cables at Ijegun-Jakande Road. Investigation is ongoing. They will be charged to court accordingly,” Hundeyin said.
This arrest comes just weeks after a similar incident in the Ile-Zik area where two other suspects, Peter James (26) and Lesipi Adamu (24), were apprehended for allegedly removing iron rods from roadside concrete barriers.
Tools recovered during the operation included sledgehammers, cutting saws, and scissors. The suspects were later charged with conspiracy, theft, and the wilful destruction of public property.
Police authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, reiterating their commitment to safeguarding public infrastructure across the state.
