In a letter dated May 15, 2025, and shared on Facebook, Professor Egbewole praised JAMB’s forthrightness in addressing the challenges that followed the release of the exam results.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, Professor Ishaq Oloyede openly acknowledged that the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination was affected by technical errors, which disrupted the results of over 300,000 candidates, Punch Reported.
“As a University, we want to put on record the fact that the Board approached the issues that arose on the result with truthfulness, and nothing was hidden from the public,” Professor Egbewole stated in his letter.
He commended Professor Oloyede’s ethical leadership and described his approach as exemplary, particularly praising his decision to accept responsibility for the errors, even though they were caused by a third-party service provider.
“The handling of the situation demonstrated courage, honesty of purpose, integrity, and strength of character,” Egbewole noted, calling it a model for the younger generation. “Such openness and integrity are uncommon phenomena in Nigeria.”
The Vice Chancellor also highlighted Oloyede’s status as a distinguished alumnus of the University of Ilorin, referring to him as a “worthy ambassador” of the institution.
“We pray that God will continue to lead you and grant you the grace to be of more invaluable service to our country,” he added.
The 2025 UTME has faced public scrutiny after thousands of candidates experienced technical issues that disrupted their results. JAMB has since issued a public apology, launched an investigation, and begun rescheduling exams for the affected students.
