Ogun Plastic Collector’s Wrist Severed in Violent Attack by Hoodlums
A plastic collector, Yusuf Abubakar, has tragically lost his left wrist after being attacked by suspected hoodlums in Isara Remo, Ogun State, while working with his colleagues to collect used plastics.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in the Sapaade area of the community, where Abubakar, a resident of Toll Gate in Ogere Remo, and his two colleagues were confronted by a group of armed suspects. The attackers, reportedly about seven in number, chased the trio with dangerous weapons.
A source in the Ogun State Police Command explained that upon seeing the armed gang, the collectors attempted to flee. While two managed to escape unscathed, Abubakar fell while running and was caught by the suspects. They dragged him into a nearby forest, tied him up, and severed his left wrist before abandoning him.
Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police, confirmed the incident, stating, “Abubakar, who had been in Ogun State for just three days, was with two colleagues in the Sapaade area collecting used plastic water bottles when about 20 armed hoodlums began chasing them with dangerous weapons.”
“The attackers tied his hands and legs, blindfolded him, and dragged him into the bush where they brutally severed his left wrist,” Odutola added.
Abubakar was able to seek treatment at a hospital before reporting the attack to the police. Investigating officers visited the scene, but no traces of the suspects were found.
Odutola encouraged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
This incident follows reports from December 2023, when residents of Sapaade, including students of Gateway Polytechnic ICT, experienced a rise in violent crimes such as cult killings and armed robberies, leaving the community on edge.
