NSC Denies Cargo Charge Increase at Onne Port

The Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) has refuted reports of increased cargo charges at Onne Port, stating that no such approval was given. The Council clarified that the last approved increments were in 2021 and 2023, prior to the current administration.

Barr. Akuta Ukeyima, Executive Secretary of the NSC, emphasized that since assuming office in 2024, there has been no discussion with terminal operators regarding charge adjustments. The NSC confirmed that the current fees charged by the West African Container Terminal (WACT) at Onne Port were duly reviewed and approved in compliance with regulatory standards.

The Council reiterated its commitment to maintaining fair, justifiable, and sustainable tariff adjustments while ensuring that port users and service providers are considered in every decision.

Stakeholder consultations took place before the previous tariff increments, involving associations such as the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), the Association of Registered Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (ARFFN), and the National Council of Managing Directors Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA).
