Niger Police Arrest Two for Motorcycle Theft and Conspiracy

The Niger State Police Command has apprehended two individuals in connection with a case involving conspiracy, motorcycle theft, and handling stolen property.

In a statement released on Tuesday in Minna, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, stated that the arrests were part of the ongoing efforts to combat criminal activity across the state. He explained that the command’s Crack Squad acted swiftly following a complaint lodged on April 3 at approximately 2:30 p.m.

The suspects, identified as 18-year-old Mohammed Usman and 22-year-old Mohammed Kola, were linked to an incident that occurred on March 28.

According to the report, Usman had taken a motorcycle ride to a hotel located near the Old City-Gate in Tunga.

Upon arrival, he allegedly lured the rider into a hotel room under false pretenses, seized the motorcycle key, locked the rider inside the room, and fled with the motorcycle.

Further investigation led police operatives to arrest a third individual, Abdullahi, who was already under investigation for a separate case involving assault during a gang altercation at a mining site in Paiko.

Abdullahi then directed the police to the same mining site, where Usman was reportedly waiting to finalize the sale of the stolen motorcycle.

Two motorcycles were recovered during the operation. Abdullahi admitted that Usman had brought the motorcycles to him for sale, while Usman confessed to stealing one of the motorcycles from Obajana, Kogi State, earlier in March.

Both suspects are currently in custody at the Crack Squad office, as investigations continue
