JAMB Launches Review Over 2025 UTME Result Complaints

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has launched an early review of its 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) process in response to what it described as “unusual complaints” from some states regarding the recently released results.

In a statement issued on Monday, JAMB acknowledged the concerns raised by candidates and parents, though it emphasized that the volume of complaints was limited and isolated.

“We are particularly concerned about the unusual complaints originating from a few states within the Federation. We are currently scrutinising these complaints in detail to identify and rectify any potential technical issues,” said Fabian Benjamin, the Board’s spokesperson.

He added that JAMB had decided to fast-track its annual system review, a thorough evaluation of the registration, examination, and result release stages, which is usually conducted months after the UTME exercise.

“In response, the Board is fast forwarding its annual system review—a comprehensive post-mortem of the examination process that is conducted each year months after the exercise,” Benjamin stated.

The Board reiterated that every registered candidate is guaranteed the opportunity to sit for the examination and that technical disruptions, where they occur, are typically addressed through rescheduling.

To ensure a transparent and credible review, JAMB has brought in independent experts, including members of the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria, Chief External Examiners who are university heads, specialists from the Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa, measurement experts, and Vice Chancellors from across the country.

“If it is determined that there were indeed glitches, we will implement appropriate remedial measures promptly, as we do in the case of the examinations themselves,” the statement read.
