Israel Strikes Hezbollah Rocket Launchers Despite Ceasefire

The Israeli military conducted airstrikes on Hezbollah rocket launchers in southern Lebanon on Thursday, despite an ongoing but fragile ceasefire with the militant group.

The strike targeted medium-range rocket launchers in the Nabatieh area, a region where at least three Israeli strikes were reported by Lebanon’s National News Agency.

The Israeli military stated that it had requested the Lebanese armed forces neutralize the launchers, which it deemed a threat to Israeli civilians and troops.

The strikes were carried out after the request went unaddressed by the Lebanese military. Under the ceasefire agreement that took effect on November 27, both parties have accused each other of violations, despite the truce’s terms, which call for the Lebanese army to deploy alongside UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon as Israeli forces gradually withdraw.

The ceasefire also stipulates that Hezbollah should pull back its forces north of the Litani River and dismantle its military infrastructure in the south.

In December, the UN peacekeeping force expressed concerns over the ongoing damage caused by Israeli forces in southern Lebanon.

Despite these concerns, the Israeli military asserted that Thursday’s actions were taken in accordance with the ceasefire understandings, aiming to remove any potential threats to Israel.
