IGP Orders Full Deployment of Tactical Police Units to Plateau State Following Renewed Attacks

In response to the recent wave of violent attacks and killings that have affected communities in Plateau State since March 28, 2025, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an immediate and robust deployment of police tactical forces to the region.

This directive, aimed at restoring peace and ensuring public safety, was announced in a statement released on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi. According to the statement, the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to ending the violence and bringing those responsible for these atrocities to justice.

To lead this critical operation, the IGP has tasked the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, with overseeing and coordinating all interventions.

The deployment includes several units of highly trained tactical personnel, armoured vehicles, surveillance drones, helicopters, and operatives from the Police Mobile Force and Special Intervention Squad (SIS).

These resources will be strategically placed to carry out specialized operations in Bokkos Local Government Area and neighboring communities, which have been the hardest hit by the violence. The attacks, which began on March 28, have resulted in numerous deaths and widespread destruction, leaving residents in fear and mourning.

Upon arriving in Plateau State on April 8, 2025, DIG Kwazhi paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang. During the meeting, he expressed the IGP’s condolences to the bereaved families and the people of the state.

The visit also provided an opportunity to assess the security situation, examine the root causes of the crisis, and explore long-term strategies for peace.

The Police Force emphasized its readiness to collaborate with the Plateau State Government, community leaders, other security agencies, and stakeholders in developing sustainable solutions.

As part of the ongoing operations, residents have been urged to cooperate fully with security agencies by providing useful information to assist with investigations and peacekeeping efforts.
