Gunmen Invade Abuja Estate, Abduct One

In the early hours of Monday, heavily armed men stormed Grow Homes Estate in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, a densely populated suburb of Abuja, holding residents hostage and abducting two individuals in a brazen assault that lasted over an hour.

The attack occurred between midnight and 1:30 a.m., with eyewitnesses reporting that the assailants overwhelmed local security personnel and forcibly took away a man and a woman from the estate.

By morning, the female victim was found unharmed within the estate. Her release was reportedly linked to a prolonged gun battle between the attackers and law enforcement officers, although the exact circumstances remain unclear.

The police, who arrived shortly after the incident began, engaged the armed group in a firefight that reportedly lasted around 40 minutes. Following the confrontation, officers successfully rescued the woman, while the second victim was taken away by the attackers.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has confirmed the incident and announced that a multi-agency manhunt involving the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Nigerian Army is underway to locate the kidnappers and rescue the remaining victim.

Security concerns have grown in Abuja’s suburban districts, with residents of Grow Homes Estate calling for urgent government intervention. They emphasized the need for better road infrastructure to aid emergency response and urged the establishment of a local police station to improve security coverage.

This incident follows closely on the heels of a similar kidnapping at Efab Global Estate in the Idu Industrial Area last week, highlighting a disturbing pattern of targeted attacks on residential communities within the capital’s outskirts.
