Gunmen Ambush and Kill Police Inspector on Port Harcourt–Aba Road
Gunmen ambushed a team of police officers on Tuesday night along the Port Harcourt–Aba Road, resulting in the death of Inspector Christian Gbaratee and the theft of his firearm.
Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama reported that the attack occurred around 8:30 p.m. as the officers, including ASP Victor Eze and Inspector Nwanochi Ndubuisi, were returning from a trip in Rivers State.
The officers were intercepted by five armed assailants dressed in combat attire near a filling station in Asa. During the confrontation, Inspector Gbaratee was fatally shot, and Inspector Ekoro Isong went missing. The attackers also stole Gbaratee’s firearm and took a suspect who had been in custody.
In response, police recovered a Toyota Corolla and several items, including expended ammunition, a laptop, and three travel bags. Inspector Isong later returned unharmed.
The body of the deceased officer has been taken to the Euro Allied Medical Centre Mortuary for an autopsy. A search operation, supported by military personnel, is ongoing to track down the attackers and recover the stolen weapon.
