Germany Launches Digital Visa Platform to Attract Skilled Workers
Germany has introduced a new online platform to simplify the visa application process for individuals wishing to work, study, or reunite with family members in the country.
The platform, which became operational on January 1, 2025, is accessible globally and allows applicants to choose from 28 categories of national visas.
This initiative is part of Germany’s effort to modernize immigration processes and address the country’s shortage of skilled workers.
Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock described the platform as “a real administrative revolution,” aiming to reduce the bureaucratic hurdles migrants often face.
With a yearly shortfall of 400,000 skilled workers, Baerbock emphasized the need for a more efficient, digital-first approach to attract talent.
The portal is available in all 167 German visa offices worldwide and is expected to streamline the application process, making it faster and more secure.
This reform is intended to help Germany attract the skilled workforce it urgently needs while modernizing its immigration system to meet contemporary needs.
