FCT Police Command Reports Loss of 140 Officers in 2024
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reported the loss of 140 officers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during 2024.
According to FCT Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu, the officers died due to various causes, including violent protests, high blood pressure, and unexpected health issues while on duty. Families of the deceased received entitlements and support under the directive of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
Despite these losses, the FCT Police Command recorded significant successes in combating crimes such as banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and “one-chance” robberies.
Commissioner Disu noted that thousands of cases were addressed, with hundreds of suspects apprehended and numerous criminal operations dismantled.
Looking ahead to 2025, the command intends to intensify efforts through community policing, intelligence-led strategies, targeted operations, and public awareness initiatives to address the region’s complex security challenges.
Disu reaffirmed the commitment of the police to safeguarding the lives and property of FCT residents.
