BSUPDB Bans Street Hawking

The Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BSUPDB) has imposed a ban on street hawking and other unauthorized activities in Maiduguri metropolis.

This move, announced by BSUPDB General Manager, Mr. Limán Mustapha, in a statement on Friday, aligns with the provisions of the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Law of 2002.

The directive prohibits street hawking, operations by tricycle operators, and activities of generator mechanics around key areas, including the Post Office and Monday Market in Maiduguri.

Other banned practices include activities on pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts; the sale of engine oil on road reservations; dumping of sand or building materials; cement mixing on roads; and the construction of boreholes near roadways.

Mustapha emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean, safe, and organized urban environment. Affected individuals and businesses have been ordered to vacate the specified areas immediately.

He warned that defaulters would face arrest and prosecution in court if they failed to comply with the regulations.

Residents and business owners are urged to adhere to the bans to avoid legal consequences and contribute to a more organized Maiduguri.
