Sokoto Guard Accidentally Kills Himself After Rescue Operation
A member of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps (name withheld) tragically shot and killed himself due to an accidental discharge, shortly after participating in a joint operation that led to the rescue of 66 kidnap victims.
The operation, which took place on Monday in the Tidibali Forest in eastern Sokoto, was led by the army.
Confirming the incident, Col. Ahmed Usman (retd.), the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, stated that the operative died as a result of the accidental discharge of his weapon after returning to base.
“The incident occurred shortly after they had returned to their base from the operation. He was holding his gun when it mistakenly fired, shooting him. He died shortly afterward,” Usman explained.
Despite the tragic loss, Usman emphasized the successes of the operation, which is part of a state government effort to combat banditry.
“So far, 66 kidnap victims have been rescued, and several bandits have been killed,” he added. “The operation continues as we aim to rid the state of criminal elements, particularly bandits.”
